What is Contraception? What Is Birth Control?

Contraception is the use various devices, drugs, agents, sexual practices, or surgical procedures to prevent conception or pregnancy. Contraception helps women plan if and when they want to have a baby.

 

Contraceptives

TRADITIONAL METHODS

  1. Breast Feeding (exclusive)
  2. Withdrawal method
  3. Rhythm method

BARRIER METHOD

  1. Male condom

HORMONAL METHODS

Contraceptive Oral Pills:

  1. Low-dose combined oral contraceptives (COCs).
  2. Progestin-only contraceptives (for Lactating methods)
  3. Postinor (Emergency Contraceptive)

 Injections

  1. Depo Provera (DMPA) (3 months Intramuscular injection)

Implants

  1. Jadelle

IUCDs

  1. Copper T380 A (effective for 10-12 years)

PERMANENT METHODS

  1. Bilateral Tubaligation (Minilap)
  2. Non Scalepal Vasectomy
